Paris MacLeod
Paris is a trained social scientist with a background in Sociology and Political Science. She believes equitable urban change must be grounded in local knowledge and participation, and focuses on lived experiences of gender, class, and climate, particularly in public space and sustainable developments.
My Background
Paris is a Research and Project Facilitator at Social Place, where she uses sociological and political scientific methods to understand the policy context in which urban change is undertaken, and to engage young people, women, and gender diverse people so their local expertise can shape that change. In addition to research and reporting, she supports Social Place Directors Olivia and Julia with project facilitation.
Parallel to her role at Social Place, Paris works in the international non-profit sector, where she provides programme and communications support for programmes promoting girls' and young women's access to education and economic self-determination.
Prior to joining Social Place, Paris was co-editor of the Cities Studio Annual Review at the London School of Economics, and she has ample experience providing unpaid care in ill-adapted urban environments.
She holds a BA in North American Studies, with a concentration in Political Science and Sociology from the Freie Universität in Berlin (FU), and an MSc in City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics (LSE). Throughout, she has focused on environmental politics and policy and the sociology of gender, sexuality, race, and class. She now specializes in gender and class-based experiences of climate injustice, particularly in the context of rapid urban change and sustainable redevelopments.
